• This Christmas let us all say a prayer for Mother Earth.

On this holy day of Christmas, while we gather with our family and friends to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ let us all say a prayer to save Planet Earth from the destruction of global warming.

As I have posted before, during my recent visit to Mount Kilimanjaro, I was able to witness the mass destruction caused by climate change. The result of our beautiful ice mountains melting away is before our eyes and it will not be too long before our ice glaciers are reduced to fragments, causing heavy destruction.

The results of climate change are are already evident. In 2018 alone, many countries, including Sri Lanka, faced devastating floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis etc, snatching away the lives of thousands of people. Presently, our brothers and sisters in northern Sri Lanka are also hit by severe floods caused from torrential rains.

Sri Lanka has always been a country which treated climate change with utmost importance. It is time much more is done to make this our top priority. As a politician, I will do everything possible to address this issue. Our planet depends on us. The future of our children lie in our hands.

    Merry Christmas everyone.
