• The UNP has absolutely no right to talk about democracy considering how it has behaved and performed under the leadership of Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe.

While they were in government, they denied the public from a vote by postponing the local elections and then the provincial council elections. This was done as they clearly knew they had lost the trust of the public.
Further more, Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe handed over the opposition leader’s post to TNA Leader Hon. R. Sampanthan, despite the TNA having only 16 seats while the post of Chief Opposition Whip of Parliament, was handed over to JVP Leader, Anura Kumara Dissanayake despite the JVP having only 6 seats.
The Joint Opposition had 54 seats but they were never allocated even sufficient time to make a speech in Parliament. They were denied basic rights of a Parliamentarian. Is this democracy?

Today, since a new Prime Minister has been selected, who will serve the public and turn this country around for its betterment, Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe and Speaker Hon. Karu Jayasuriya is talking of Parliament privileges.
Let me remind Hon. Wickremesinghe that a past UNP Leader, the late Hon. R Premadasa had prorogued Parliament once to avoid an impeachment motion.

President Sirisena has not prorogued Parliament to avoid anything. Infact Parliament is convening just 9 days after it was originally supposed to summon.
The UNP has no right to talk of democracy when democracy is the least they have practiced.
