• Our fight for justice will continue & we will work for a new Sri Lanka!

Today, my father and your leader, former President Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned from his post as Prime Minister to pave way for the establishment of a new government under President Maithripala Sirisena.

Hon. Rajapaksa, in recent weeks, after being appointed as Prime Minister on Oct 26, saw the utterly disgusting behavior of the UNP MPs who created a political instability so severe, that it resulted in the entire country coming to a standstill.

Hon. Rajapaksa, as you all are aware, was sworn in as Prime Minister at a time when the nation was facing a severe economic, social and political crisis. His urgent help was sought by President Maithripala Sirisena, who saw the nation failing after the severe mismanagement and weak economic policies of Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe and his party. This severe mismanagement was felt by the masses. The cost of living was soaring, the business community was hit by heavy taxes, FDIs were at a standstill, unemployment was rising, and we had only fallen as a nation.

My father, Hon Rajapaksa had in 2009, with the help of our brave tri forces ended a three decade long civil conflict against the LTTE terrorists. When President Sirisena, asked for his urgent help to save Sri Lanka once again, he accepted it as he too could see the severe mess we had fallen into.

  • True face of the UNP’s so called ‘democracy’ ! UNP goons running amok in capital of Sri Lanka!

Moments after the Supreme Court ruling earlier today, I was shocked to see how a UNP Municipal Councillor, stormed into Lake House and threatened and assaulted journalists and staff which forced security to be tightened in and around the building.

Using foul language, the goons led by the Municipal Councillor, stormed into the building, posing a great threat to the lives of the journalists and staff. Some female journalists were also assaulted.

  • We will continue our struggle for a General Election along with our coalition partner’s for the betterment of the country.

Following the crucial Supreme Court verdict, which has ruled against President Maithripala Sirisena’s decision to dissolve Parliament, we, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna accept and respect the Court’s ruling.

The Supreme Court is the highest authority in the judiciary and it alone can interpret the Constitution. Although we do not agree with the outcome of today’s verdict, we respect the judgement announced by the Hon. Judges and the Court.

Sri Lanka, today, is in the midst of a severe political crisis. No party enjoys a clear two thirds majority in Parliament and political parties including Hon Ranil Wickremesinghe’s United National Party are in dire straits. It is no doubt that in order to have a stable, strong government in place, a free and fair election must be held. In any democracy, ultimately it is the people’s will that needs to be upheld.

  • Sri Lanka’s Parliament today, has turned into nothing but a mere joke!

Almost two months into the political crisis, the United National Party, which is suffering from an internal power struggle over its leadership, suddenly decided to conduct a confidence motion on Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe to fraudulently show that Wickremesinghe controls the majority in Parliament.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, as you all are well aware by now, despite knowing that there is a Prime Minister in place, decided to go ahead with the motion, just like all the other illegal motions which he has conducted since Oct 26.

  • Global Warming. Our future is disappearing – Fight Against Global Warming

In recent days, a video circulating on social media has caught my attention. It is the video of a beautifully designed ice sculpture of a mother holding her little child’s hand.

Under the burning sun, the little boy’s sculpture is melting away till it is finally reduced to a small piece of ice, much to the shock of passerby’s. At the end of the video comes a stark warning – ‘Global Warming. Our future is disappearing’.
